About this token counter
Large language models charge and limit usage by tokens—not words. Before pasting a long document into ChatGPT or Claude, it helps to know roughly how much context you are using. This tool counts basic text statistics and shows approximate token estimates using a standard heuristic.

Does this tool send my text to an AI?
No. All counting and estimates run in your browser. Your text is never sent to our servers or any AI API.
Are token counts exact?
No. We use a common approximation (~4 characters per token for English). Real tokenizers (used by OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google) can differ, especially for code or non-English text.
Which context window should I pick?
Match the limit of the model you use—for example 128K for many ChatGPT and Claude plans, or 4K/8K for older or smaller models.
